OmniStudio — originally developed by Vlocity and acquired by Salesforce in 2020 — is the UI and guided-process engine powering Salesforce’s industry cloud products. It’s a powerful tool for building structured customer journeys inside the Salesforce ecosystem. But that power comes with significant complexity and tight platform dependency.
What is Salesforce OmniStudio?
OmniStudio is a suite of task-based components built for Salesforce, with OmniScript at its core. OmniScript creates guided, step-by-step user flows (think dynamic intake forms or service request journeys) designed to be deployed on Salesforce Experience Sites. It comes in two versions: OmniStudio Managed Package (the original Vlocity architecture) and OmniStudio Standard (the newer, Salesforce-native version).
OmniStudio is typically bundled with Salesforce Industry Clouds, or available as an add-on for Enterprise and Unlimited editions, with usage metered through “Omni-calls.”

OmniStudio is architected for Salesforce and lives entirely within it. Forms and guided flows built in OmniScript are published through Salesforce Experience Sites, which means organizations that need to collect data outside of the Salesforce portal, or embed forms into external websites and systems, face real limitations.
The platform is also technically demanding. Configuration requires Salesforce expertise, and the transition from the legacy Managed Package to the Standard architecture adds migration complexity for existing customers.
