eConsent in Clinical Trials: Where Conditional Logic Meets Regulatory Review

Electronic informed consent, or eConsent, replaces a paper consent form with a digital process, but the regulatory bar it has to clear is the same one paper consent always had to clear: the participant has to actually understand what they’re agreeing to.   • A mechanism to confirm comprehension, whether through embedded questions or a structured walkthrough, rather than just a signature at the bottom of a long document
  • A complete, timestamped audit trail showing when consent was given, by whom, and under what version of the form

These are the same requirements that apply to any regulated data collection process: version control, structured logic, and an audit trail that can answer specific questions after the fact.
