Introducing Form Builder 4.4.0

Disclaimer: As of June 2018, Form Builder 5.0 is the default version of the FormAssembly Form Builder. Visit the release blog post to learn about the Form Builder 5.0 improvements.

It’s here! Version 4.4.0 of the FormAssembly Form Builder has been released and it includes a few key changes, as well as an update of the Form Builder’s design.

One of the most immediately obvious changes between 4.4.0 and previous versions of the Form Builder is the design and layout of the Form Builder itself. The new look includes user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing updates.

Key Differences

  • Layout and color scheme more closely matches other areas of FormAssembly (Reports, Form List), providing a more seamless experience.
  • 4.4.0 includes a more intuitive, minimal way to return to the forms list.

  • Expanded help options and other FormAssembly options directly accessible in the Form Builder.
  • When a form is saved, additional options will appear in the left sidebar.

Autosuggest provides benefits for both the form creator and the end user by reducing the effort involved with including long lists in forms and then selecting an option from those lists.
Instead of manually entering menu choices (one-by-one or by copy-pasting), users can upload CSVs containing a large number of list entries. Two-column CSVs are permitted and can be used to create dependent list items.
Users also benefit by being able to start entering a list item and then select an option from a short list of possible choices. If two column CSVs were uploaded, forms can be configured to deliver a second field value based on the first value. See the screenshot below:

Note: Autosuggest is available for users on Premier, Enterprise Cloud, or Compliance Cloud plans.

Version 4.4.0 includes Google’s reCAPTCHA, a streamlined, simplified version of the old CAPTCHA featuring a jumbled string of text. Instead of deciphering obscured letters, users simply click to verify that they are human. reCAPTCHA helps reduce spam, is easier to use, and features a simpler, more minimalistic design.
According to Google, distorted text CAPTCHAs can be completed by artificial intelligence at a very high rate of accuracy. On the contrary, reCAPTCHA takes into account all of a user’s interactions on the page to judge whether they are human or not. If there is doubt, an additional test such as one relying on photo recognition skills is implemented.
if JavaScript is disabled and reCAPTCHA can’t be loaded, users will be unable to submit their response. This means that FormAssembly users who add reCAPTCHA must require respondents to have JavaScript enabled.

Other Recent Changes

In addition to the Form Builder updates included with release 4.4.0, we’ve recently put out release 4.5.7, which include one main design change to the form builder in the form of updated icons for the Add Content menu, editing toolbar, and options sidebar (Release date: App – 2/28/17, Enterprise – 3/1/17).
