How well do you know the awesome people behind FormAssembly? This series is the place to learn all about our incredible team members. This week we’re profiling Alex Bariyev, Solution Engineer.
Name: Alex Bariyev
Title: Solution Engineer
With FormAssembly Since: June 2018
1. What interested you about FormAssembly in the first place?
I was a software developer at a fairly big company and I was getting tired of just coding all day long. I’ve been long searching for a job that would intersect my desires to be technical, helpful and interactive. At the time, FormAssembly was looking for a solution engineer and it sounded like a perfect fit, so I went ahead and applied!
2. What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I love breaking down complex use cases into smaller, more manageable component while approaching a problem in a creative way.
3. What excites you most about your position and growth opportunity at FormAssembly?
Since I am the first ever solution engineer at FormAssembly, there is a lot of room to grow within the position. Outside of providing technical expertise to the Sales department, I enjoy finding new ways of showcasing FormAssembly’s capabilities in various use cases. Since it’s such a new position within FormAssembly, and IT world in general, being able to help set a standard and define a role is very exciting!
4. What are you looking forward to achieving at FormAssembly?
In my opinion, the best solution engineers are the ones that clients and prospect don’t ever have to meet. That would mean that I am providing our team with sufficient knowledge, tools, and training to be able to handle any technical question from a prospect or client!
5. What unique qualities do you bring to the FormAssembly team?
I have a lot of experience working as a one-man team in a consulting setting. It taught how to extract all the information I would possibly need for a project, as well as teaching how to ask the right questions and setting expectations. It comes very handily when working on complex use cases at FormAssembly.
6. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
I love watching sports. Pacers, Colts, and IU are my teams and I barely ever miss watching a game. I spend a lot of time with my wife, Ellie, and my two golden retrievers, Ralphie and Isla. Also, since recently becoming a first-time homeowner, I spend A LOT of time fixing up the house and the yard.
7. What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
I swam collegiately at Franklin College, where I was the first ever gold medalist in school history at Liberal Arts Championship as a part of a 400 free relay. Oh, and I recently overtook the crown for the tallest person at FormAssembly from Steven :P.
8. Who was your role model/hero as a child?
I didn’t pick good role models as a child, so I’ll pick one from my college years – my father-in-law, Pete. He worked hard for everything he ever had and I’ve never seen a more hard-working, patient and loving man.
