How well do you know the awesome people behind FormAssembly? This series is the place to learn all about our incredible team members. This week we’re profiling Michael Stathers, Infrastructure Operations Engineer
Name: Michael Stathers
Title: Infrastructure Operations Engineer
With FormAssembly Since: July 2016
1. What interested you about FormAssembly in the first place?
Working with a remote team on highly scalable, reliable, and performant infrastructure.
2. What’s your favorite thing about your job?
The consistent movement towards adopting and maintaining devops standards. Infrastructure as code is very important when scaling up operations.
3. What has been your proudest moment at FormAssembly?
My very first task at FormAssembly was to write a migration tool. This tool collated customer data from multiple previous generations of infrastructure and imported that data into a unified system. There have been a few cases like this, but this example has had the most visibility.
4. What are some of your favorite activities outside of work?
In no particular order – dirt biking, fly fishing, PC gaming and miniature tabletop wargaming. I’ve recently started getting into FPV drone racing as well.
5. What’s something not a lot of people know about you?
My favorite Christmas movie is Love Actually. It’s a Christmas movie in the same way Die Hard is a Christmas movie though.
6. If you were a breakfast cereal, what would you be and why?
Bits And Bites – it would be like Alpha-Bits, but only ones and zeros. Oh, and add little computer-themed marshmallows, like Lucky Charms. You could collect box tops and send away for a Raspberry Pi. Why? To promote computer science in our youth.
