American Delegate Application 2008

Welcome to the Global Engagement Summit 2008 Application for American Delegates!
The Global Engagement Summit seeks to bring together a driven group of young people from around the world, to connect with social entrepreneurs and global change-makers. In doing so, GES hopes to build their skills and capacities to engage in responsible, effective, and sustainable change around the world. Not only is GES one of the only student global engagement events in the United States, it is one of the most exclusive and high-demand student-run conferences in the world. It is unique among its peers in that it offers real opportunities after the Summit ends in the form of an active online alumni community and opportunities for outcome funding for projects designed by Summit delegates. Last year, the Summit gave students an opportunity to fundraise on GlobalGiving.com, and it awarded 4 projects permanent spots on the Global Giving website. Since then, GES has helped delegates raise over $40,000 towards these projects. Above all, GES hopes to foster a greater sense of community among the world's young people, through partnership in change, with a view toward a better tomorrow. While we are primarily interested in university students and/or recent graduates, if you are not in these categories but still want to be involved, please contact us.

Project Proposal
A major component of GES is the process of refining delegate project proposals, whether they are tangible projects already being implemented or simply new ideas. Considering a small scale project, please write a 400-500 word project proposal. Keep in mind that it is a primary objective of GES to generate and sustain opportunities for its participant community. Please be sure to address the following:
1. The issue/problem the project addresses.
2. Its method for addressing the issue.
3. The resources needed for implementation.
4. Problems you anticipate facing.
Your demonstration of the proposal's potential for success is extremely important. There is no limit to the location of this project, but you must demonstrate your awareness of the issues you face based on where you are proposing to work or how big your goals are. Novelty and creativity are valuable to us.
